Traces of the history of Fort Phra Chulachomklao

Fort Phra Chulachomklao, or simply "Fort Phra Chula", Laem Fa Pha Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province, is located on the bank of the Chao Phraya River. It is a water fortress located in Laem Fa Pha Subdistrict, Phra Samut Chedi District, Samut Prakan Province. It was built during the reign of King Chulalongkorn to protect against invasions from the British and French, which was a suitable location for the Chao Phraya River mouth. If enemy warships invaded through the mouth, this fort was built as a Western-style cannon fort and was equipped with 7 152/32 mm (6-inch) Armstrong cannons and Tiger Crouching guns. In addition, His Majesty also came to test firing Tiger Crouching guns himself on the morning of May 28, 1893. Fort Phra Chulachomklao was also used to fight French warships during the crisis of R.S. 112, with Rear Admiral Phraya Chalayutthayothin as the director of the defense of the Chao Phraya River mouth. It is currently the location of HTMS Mae Klong, a frigate-type warship: Keke, built at Uraga Shipyard in Yokosuka. Japan in 1936, commissioned in 1937 and decommissioned in 1996, for a total of 59 years of service, making it the longest-serving warship in the history of the Royal Thai Navy and the second oldest warship in the world.
