The longest approach to Hikawa Shrine in Japan

Hikawa Shrine in Saitama City, Saitama Prefecture, is the head shrine of the 280 or so Hikawa Shrines across the country. It enshrines the gods Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Inadahime-no-Mikoto, and Onamuchi-no-Mikoto. Hikawa Shrine is also famous for having the longest approach to the shrine in Japan. The first torii gate is near Saitama-Shintoshin Station, the next station. By chance, I went to the main hall to pray by going through the Chinowa-diving ritual. Hikawa Shrine is always crowded with worshippers no matter when you visit. Behind the Chozuya (purification fountain), there is a Hebi-no-Ike (snake pond). This is where the pure water flows into the sacred pond inside Hikawa Shrine. It is dimly lit, but as you get closer, you can feel a sacred atmosphere. The grounds of Hikawa Shrine are very large, and there are many other small shrines. In addition, the greenery of the trees is pleasant in summer, but in spring, the neighboring Omiya Park is also recommended as many cherry blossoms bloom in bloom, making it a great place to enjoy cherry blossom viewing.
