Phithiphakdi Palace – A Historic Love Nest in Sai Buri

On this trip to Pattani, I made it a point to visit Sai Buri to see "Phithiphakdi Palace." I had heard that it is a love nest steeped in history and romance amidst the political conflicts of the past. 🌿 This palace is located at the corner of the clock tower intersection, where Suriyah Road meets Kalapho Road, in Taluban Subdistrict, Sai Buri District. It stands gracefully opposite Sai Buri Palace. The building is a two-story teakwood house painted in a soft cream-yellow hue. Its architecture is a blend of various cultural influences, including Malay, Javanese, and Western styles. The Western-style rounded porch exudes a gentle charm, while the intricately carved wooden ventilation panels and windows showcase exquisite craftsmanship. If you love vintage photography, this place offers countless picturesque spots. 📸 Phithiphakdi Palace was built around the late reign of King Rama V by "Phra Phithiphakdi" (Tengku Mukda Abdulbuth) as a marital home for himself and "Tengku Song," the niece of the ruler of Sai Buri. At that time, there was conflict between Yaring and Sai Buri, but the love between the couple bridged the divide between the two towns. Thus, this palace became not just a home but also a symbol of unity amidst differences. 💛 Today, Phithiphakdi Palace remains in relatively good condition. Although it is no longer inhabited, it is well-maintained. Walking around the palace, you can feel the aura of the past. The sound of the wind passing through the teakwood ventilation panels seems to transport you back a hundred years.
