This 120m deep canyon divides Ronda into the old and new towns, and has steep cliffs on both sides, with the Guadalevín River flowing in the middle, which has been a major obstacle to communication between the two regions since ancient times. Ponte Nuevo is one of three bridges built to solve this problem, and it is said that it was completed in 1793 after 40 years of construction. It was the last of the three bridges to be completed, so it was given the name, meaning 'new bridge'. It's nice to take a walk along the river under the bridge.
