Weluwan Mahavihara Temple

Veluvana Mahavihara, the first Buddhist temple in India 🌱🙏🌿The word Veluvana means bamboo garden. This monastery was originally a royal garden of King Bimbisara, King of Magadha, located outside the city of Rajagriha. 🎋🙏💐Veluvana Temple was originally a royal garden for King Bimbisara's travels. It was a shady bamboo forest with a fence and entrance. Veluvana also has another name in the sutra as "Veluvana Kalandakanivāpasathan". King Bimbisara offered this royal garden as a Buddhist temple after listening to the sermons of Anupubbikatha and Caturariyasajja. 🌻🙏🌱This monastery was also used as a place for monks to gather for the great Fourfold Assembly in Buddhism, which was an important event on Makha Bucha Day.
