Hatshepsut's Mortuary Temple A mortuary temple built by Hatshepsut, the only female pharaoh of ancient Egypt, located on the west bank of Luxor, Egypt. It was designed by Hatshepsut's close aide and architect Senmut. It was later partially destroyed by Thutmose III, who scraped off the murals and inscriptions. The west bank is home to necropolises such as the Valley of the Kings and Deir il-Amadina, and has been considered the "world of the dead."
