One Of The Oldest Preminstratensian Monasteries

Strahov Monastery is a Preminstratensian abbey founded in 1143, and is open daily from 0900-1200 and 1230-1700. You can take trams 20, 22 and 26 to Pohorelec and walk around 300 meters. Strahov Monastery is located near Prague Castle, although the spires of Strahov's basilica standout on the beautiful Prague skyline, the most precious aspect of the monastery, is the furnished Baroque library. It is considered to be one of the most valuable and best preserved historical libraries, containing over 200000 volumes. Additionally the monastery houses an important painting gallery with one of the most valuable monastery collections in Central Europe.
