Usk town and Porthcawl (Day trip)

Back in June this year I went on a day trip with Social Services. Usk is a market town in Monmouthshire and it holds true to its traditions. You can still find a number of independent shops: 'the butcher the baker and the candle stick maker' as they say. None of this out of town retail shopping. The streets of Usk are steeped in history with many charming old buildings, a wonderful Norman Castle and a rural life museum. It's main claim to fame though is its flowers aka Usk in Bloom. Porthcawl A popular seaside town near Bridgend in South Wales. Porthcawl boasts several beaches, including Rest Bay (known for surfing and rock pools), Trecco Bay (popular with families), and Town Beach. There are a number of coastal walks and the town is home to the annual Elvis festival attracting fans from all over the world. For those who enjoy long or extended walks a visit to Merthyr Mawr would make a good afternoon excursion. It's known for its large sand dunes. Coney beach has fun fair/pleasure park and there is an amusement arcade on the seafront. Makes for a great day out for all the family 😄
