Warsaw, the capital of the Republic of Poland, the provincial capital of Masovian Voivodeship, is the political, economic, and cultural center and the largest city of Poland. Located in the central part of Poland on both sides of the Vistula River, the metropolitan area has a population of 3.78 million, and the city covers an area of 510 square kilometers. It is the ninth-largest capital city in the European Union, one of the 19 global first-tier cities, with a skyline composed of many skyscrapers, including a few European cities along with Frankfurt, London, Moscow, and Paris. It is also one of the world's best-landscaped cities, with a total green area of 12,600 hectares, accounting for about 27% of the total urban area, and an average of 77.7 square meters per capita, ranking first among major cities worldwide. Warsaw is a city with a rich history; it was once a major trade route for Central European countries and has always been a bustling place. Settlements have been present since the 10th century, it gained city status in the 13th century, began to grow in the 15th century, and has always been the largest city in Poland. It was occupied during World War I and II and was severely damaged during the Second World War. After decades of post-war reconstruction, it has become a beautiful city.
