Pokhara: A Special Place to Enjoy Tranquil Lakes and the Himalayas

Pokhara, Nepal's second-largest city, exudes a laid-back atmosphere despite its size. This resort town combines natural beauty with a sense of comfort. Situated at an altitude of approximately 800 meters, it is easily accessible from Kathmandu and is a popular destination for experiencing the Himalayas up close. The symbol of Pokhara is undoubtedly Phewa Lake, which stretches across the heart of the city. The lake's surface reflects the majestic Himalayan peaks like a mirror, and the scenery illuminated by the morning and evening light is truly breathtaking. On clear days, iconic Himalayan peaks such as the Annapurna range and Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail) appear vividly before your eyes, making you feel as if you're in a dream. Pokhara offers a diverse culinary scene, ranging from trendy cafes catering to tourists to local eateries frequented by residents. A must-try is the local Dal Bhat (Nepali set meal), which features simple yet flavorful dishes that soothe the weariness of travel. Outdoor activities are also highly recommended in Pokhara. I visited Dhamps, where a hike through forests leads to expansive village landscapes, distant farmlands, and panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks. Despite the weather not being ideal, I had my first experience staying in a mountain lodge and fully enjoyed the mountains. Another unforgettable adventure was paragliding! Taking off from Sarangkot Hill, I soared into the sky, carried by the wind. Below me stretched Phewa Lake, and I could feel almost eye-level with the Himalayan peaks.
