Ancient Sukhothai-era temple in Phukamyao City

🏡 Wat Pa Daeng Boonnak, originally named Wat Boonnak, later merged with Wat Pa Daeng, which was built nearby. Today, they are combined into one temple called Wat Pa Daeng Boonnak. Remnants of the wall separating the two temples can still be seen. The forested area beside the temple is the former Wat Boonnak, featuring the base of an ordination hall, an old stupa in Sukhothai style, ancient wall ruins, and other archaeological remains. 🏠 Phaya Yutthishtian, the ruler of Song Khwae City, assisted King Tilokaraj in a war against King Borommatrailokkanat. As a reward, King Tilokaraj granted him governance over Phayao City. Phaya Yutthishtian established Wat Aranyawasi, also known as Wat Boonnak or Wat Phaya Ruang, and created the revered Buddha statue "Luang Pho Nak" in 2019 BE. Key attractions within the temple include: 🧱 Earthen mounds and archaeological remains, including a vihara and ancient wall ruins, with 25 identified locations. 🏠 The vihara of Wat Pa Daeng, showcasing Lanna-style architecture. ⛺ A small vihara housing the "Phra Chao Tanjai" Buddha statue. 🛕 The stupa of Wat Pa Daeng, a twelve-sided structure enshrining Buddha relics. 🛕 The arched gate built with Mon bricks. Within the Wat Boonnak area, notable features include: 🏚 The Phra Ruang Vihara, a large Sukhothai-style vihara influenced by Sukhothai architecture. 🛕 A bell-shaped stupa in Sukhothai style, consisting of a three-tiered base, an octagonal layer, and a circular structure leading to the bell-shaped top.
