Kwan Phayao

Kwan Phayao, Phayao 🙏It is a natural water source located in the center of the city. It is a large crescent-shaped lake. It is a large lake as far as the eye can see. It is surrounded by beautiful, intricate mountains. 💧The word Kwan is a local language which means a swamp or a large lake. This word is used in the Lanna region only in Phayao Province. 🐍Legend has it that this lake has been the home of a naga named "Phaya Thummasikki" since the time of the Buddha. 🙏When the Lord Buddha came to stay at Nong Aiang, after eating, Phra Anan walked down to the edge of the lake to scoop water to offer to the Buddha. However, Phaya Thummasikki obstructed him and showed his arrogance that he was the owner of the lake. The Buddha had to come down to subdue him by performing a miracle to transform his body to be taller than Phaya Thummasikki. 🪷Phaya Thummasikki, upon seeing the miraculous power of the Buddha, Therefore, he became devoted to the Lord Buddha and devoted himself to being a servant of Buddhism. The Lord Buddha said that when the Tathagata had passed away 5,000 years ago, he should come and establish the foundation of Buddhism at this pond. 🙏When the time had passed according to the specified time, Phraya Thummasikhi transformed into a man dressed in white and went to tell the story of the two Buddhist devotees living on the edge of the pond. He also gave the couple a large amount of gold that he had brought from the Naga city to use to build a Buddha statue.
