Ancient Xiangru City: A Love Letter of Music

In Peng'an County, Sichuan Province, lies the romantic "Ancient Xiangru City" (相如故城), a destination steeped in music, love letters, and legendary tales of romance from Chinese literature. One of my favorite lines from the famous poem "Feng Qiu Huang – 凤求凰" by the renowned writer Sima Xiangru (司马相如) is: "Feng xi feng xi gui gu xiang, ao you si hai qiu qi huang" (凤兮凤兮归故乡，遨游四海求其凰). Translated, it means: "Oh phoenix, oh phoenix, return to your homeland, seeking your mate across the four seas." Legend has it that Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun (卓文君) fell in love through the music of an ancient zither. As the young man played the melody of "Feng Qiu Huang," it conveyed his heartfelt emotions, leading to a profound love between them. They became one of the most celebrated couples of the Han Dynasty, living a simple life surrounded by poetry and music. At "Ancient Xiangru City," the atmosphere of that era has been beautifully recreated. From the melodies in the Love Letter Courtyard to classical music performances and the nostalgic cityscape, this place exudes a timeless charm.
