Colonial Penang Museum

I'd heard so many good things about this museum before I decided to venture there myself. What a gem! And so different from the usual, stuffy museum experience. From the get-go I was greeted warmly (by the owner's husband, no less!), and invited to leave my shoes and other non-valuables in a basket. I discovered the value of that later. In most museums you just wander around by yourself, maybe listening to an audio recording (which I personally don't like) or simply reading whatever is posted on the walls. But having the guide really brought the experience to life for me. He was incredibly knowledgeable about all the artefacts he pointed out, the history of the building and its owner. And what a wonderful sense of humor. I had the most enjoyable 90 minutes getting a true sense of what life was like for the wealthy individuals who used to live and trade in Penang. #maydaytrip #urbanexplorer #happylaborday
