Wat Theppitakpunnaram, Pak Chong

Wat Theppitak Punnaram is located on Khao Si Siat Ao. Locals like to call it Wat Phra Khao because there is a large white Buddha statue enshrined here. It can be seen prominently from the road leading to the big mountain. It is located in Pak Chong District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province. At first, Phra Sutthithammarangsri Kamphirametcharn or Than Pho Lee intended to build a temple at the foot of Khao Si Siat Ao at the same time as building the big Buddha statue. However, he passed away before he could build the Buddha statue. After that, his disciples led by General Pong Punnakan joined together to build a Buddha statue by expanding the Phra Phrom Buddha statue and casting it from reinforced concrete. It has a lap width of 27 meters to present to His Majesty the King as a royal merit for His Majesty the King Rama IX. The Buddha statue was given the name “Phra Phuttha Sakon Si Ma Mongkhon”, making it the largest Buddha statue in the world in the blessing posture. To travel up to pay homage to Phra Phuttha Sakon Si Ma Mongkhon or Luang Pho Khao, you have to walk up the stairs on both sides, both up and down. There are a total of 1,250 steps, equivalent to the number of Arahant disciples who visited the Lord Buddha on the full moon day of the 3rd lunar month during the time of the Lord Buddha. For the journey up to worship the Buddha statue, there will be pavilions along the way to rest and admire the beauty and take beautiful pictures.
