A Town with Unique Aesthetic Appeal

Ontinyent is located about 82 kilometers from the city of Valencia. Its old town has been declared a cultural heritage site. The town's unique aesthetic appeal stems from the contrast between the stately mansions of the 18th century and the more modest Valencian architecture of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Vila neighborhood is situated on the high ground by the river. In the area closest to the riverbank, you can still see remnants of the town walls currently used as retaining walls. Walking around it, you'll discover a charming urban environment: the architecture of the houses, the sloping narrow streets, the lattice windows and balconies, the decorative ceramics... You must not miss visiting the Church of Santa María, with its 71-meter-high bell tower and magnificent Renaissance doorway. The main features inside are the Gothic dome and the Chapel of La Purísima, where you can see sculptures and paintings by artists such as Ribalta or Mariano Benlliure. There are other interesting places as well, such as the Palace of the Duchess of Almodóvar, the Carmelite Convent, the mansion of the Count of Torre Fiel, the Vila Bridge, the Plaza Mayor, or the cloister of the Franciscan Monastery, which houses the Museum of Natural Sciences.
