Chase the late autumn in Hulunbuir 🍂 and embark on a spontaneous trip The best time to view the northern route of Hulunbuir is from mid to late September, but once you set off, the journey itself is the best scenery. 🚗 Transportation Since ✈️ flights were too expensive, we switched to 🚅 + 🚙, renting a 7-seater MPV in Qiqihar for 👨👦👩👩👶👧. 🗺 Route see P5 Hulunbuir is divided north and south by Hailar; we took the northern route. D1 Xi’an ➡ Beijing ➡ Qiqihar High-speed train from Xi’an North to Beijing West, sleeper train from Beijing Station to Qiqihar. D2 Qiqihar ➡ Zhalong ➡ Hakeyashan ➡ Hailar Pick up the car in Qiqihar, first visit Zhalong to see red-crowned cranes, then head straight to Hailar, with a possible stop at Hakeyashan on the way. D3 Hailar ➡ Morigele River ➡ Erguna National Wetland Park ➡ Genhe Follow the northern route along Morigele River to the North Visitor Center, passing Tuga Campground, then return the same way and visit the National Wetland Park, taking highways 332 to 331. D4 Genhe ➡ Deer Xing’an God Deer Park ➡ Moerdaoga ➡ Taiping Village ➡ Shiwei Genhe white line + Lamo line. After reaching Moerdaoga, strongly recommend adding Taiping Village on the route. Personally, the scenery is better than Genhe white line, especially the second half at sunset passing Taiping Village, Eagle’s Beak, and Linjiang—definitely worth the detour. D5 Shiwei ➡ Heishantou In the morning, check in at the Shiwei national border monument, then take the famous Ka line. The scenery along the way is really beautiful. Make sure to arrive at Heishantou before dusk to see the stunning sunset. D6 Heishantou ➡ Manzhouli The scenery along the way is similar to the Ka line, with more plains and lakes. On sunny days, it’s just as beautiful. In Manzhouli, check out the Matryoshka Doll Hotel and the bustling Sino-Russian Golden Street at night. D7 Manzhouli ➡ Qiqihar Drive back quickly, and be sure to have BBQ in Qiqihar. D8 Qiqihar ➡ Beijing ➡ Xi’an Return by high-speed train, Qiqihar South to Beijing Chaoyang, transfer by subway to Beijing West, then Beijing West to Xi’an North. 👚 Clothing Suggestions Heating is already on during National Day, hotels are warm indoors, and homestays have air conditioning heating. Outdoors it’s cold and windy; recommend layering with an inner shirt + three-piece shell jacket, bottom with thermal leggings + autumn/winter pants. No need to bring too many thick down jackets; layering is enough. 🏠 Accommodation Suggestions In Hailar, Manzhouli, and Qiqihar, choose chain hotels; elsewhere, mainly homestays. Book in advance.
