[Kagoshima Prefecture] A caving mecca known only to those in the know! Suirendo Cave on Okinoerabu Island

Okinoerabujima, one of the Amami Islands, is an uplifted coral reef island about 552km south of the Kagoshima mainland. It is also known as the "Island of Limestone Caves" because of the more than 400 large and small underground caves that exist underground, making it a mecca for caving. There are currently five types of caving courses open to the public. Caves that can be experienced are determined by skill level. [Beginner Course (children to adults, normal physical strength)] Umimidou Course, Rimstone Cave Course, Ojado Cave Course [Advanced Course (for adults, people who are confident in their physical strength, people who can swim)] Suirendo Course, Ginsui Cave Course The most famous caving on Okinoerabu Island is Ginsui-do Cave, but since it requires a minimum of two people and the participation fee is high, I gave up on it as a solo traveler and instead experienced Suirendo Cave. Suirendo Cave takes about three hours round trip, but since it is an advanced course, the content is quite serious. You will swim across an underground lake up to your head, and crawl through a narrow space with a gap of less than 30 cm. It is a perfect survival experience for those who want to experience thrills and adventure.
