Chasing Sakura in Okinawa 🌸

#cherryblossom25 With its warm climate, Okinawa sees the earliest blooming cherry blossoms in all of Japan, as early as mid-January to mid-February. 🌸 Unlike in the rest of Japan, the most common variety of cherry tree in Okinawa is the hikanzakura, which has a dark pink colour and a distinctive bell shape, blooming in a downward direction. Some popular cherry blossom destinations in Okinawa include the Nakijin Castle site (the ruins of a 14th century Ryukyuan castle), the Motobu Yaedake Cherry Blossom Festival as well as the cherry blossom festivals in Naha and Nago.
