Prasat Temple, Nonthaburi

It is an ancient temple, which is assumed to have been built during the reign of King Prasat Thong, which is over 400 years old. The temple's chapel, which is a Maha-ut chapel, has no windows on either side of the wall. In front, there is a castle-shaped door decorated with stucco patterns. At the back, there is only a small skylight behind the principal Buddha image. Another distinctive feature of the chapel is that it is shaped like a junk's hull, or what is known as falling into the elephant's tummy. The base of the chapel is curved like the curve of a junk, which is a characteristic of Ayutthaya-era chapels. Inside the chapel, there is a Buddha image, the principal Buddha image, called Luang Pho Yai or the Prasat Thong Buddha image, which is a stucco Buddha image in the meditation posture, enshrined with disciples and a group of more than 25 stucco Buddha images in the meditation and Mara-Vijaya postures.
