Jiufen originally flourished as a gold mine under Japanese rule, and after the mine was closed it was forgotten, but it has a history of being revived as a tourist destination. There are a series of stairs that are somewhat similar in atmosphere to the Ikuno Silver Mine, Iwami Silver Mine, and the approach to Mount Konpira in Japan, and you can also find places that look like excavation sites. There are bustling flower and fabric stores, candy stores, souvenir stores, dried goods stores, tea art specialty stores, restaurants, temples, a small movie theater named after the movie "A City of Sadness", and entertainment stores lined up together like a festival. 🍽️ Jiufen Little Master We entered Jiufen after sunset, so most of the shops were closed, but we were able to avoid the crowds and traffic jams. We found this place as one of the places in Jiufen where you can sit down and eat instead of eating street food after 6pm. You can't touch them, but say hello and take a photo before passing by. There are old streets (laogai) all over Taiwan, some of which thrive as tourist destinations and shopping streets for dates, while others are residential areas with a sense of wabi-sabi and are settlements for locals who have lived there for many years, including the elderly. Jiufen is one of these, and if you go up a little further, you will reach the old street of the settlement. Accommodations in Jiufen are always fully booked, but it is also nice to extend your stay to watch the sunrise in the morning and learn about the history of gold mining. Leaving the last bustle of the night behind, we took a bus from Jiufen to Ruifang Station, then a train, and returned to Taipei from Ruifang Station.
