See the changing leaves at Kasuga Taisha Lantern Shrine

Kasuga Taisha Shrine is the oldest and most important shrine in the city. It was built at the same time as Nara was established as the capital city to worship the deity. It is also one of the eight places in Nara that are registered as a World Heritage Site. When you enter the shrine grounds, you will see over 2,000 stone lanterns. The path leading to the main shrine is lined with these lanterns. There are over a thousand lanterns hanging on the building itself. This area is where the lantern festival called “Mandoro” is held. The festival is held in early February and mid-August, and lanterns are lit at night in the shrine. During the fall season, from November to December, many trees in the shrine are covered in changing colors, making it a popular place for tourists to take pictures. Wisteria flowers bloom from late April to early May, making it another popular photo spot for tourists.
