Shuili Snake Kiln｜Taiwan's Oldest Wood-Fired Kiln Preserving a Century of Ceramic Art

Located in Shuili, Nantou, the "Snake Kiln Ceramics Cultural Park" was established in 1927. It is the oldest and most well-preserved traditional wood-fired climbing kiln in Taiwan. Named "Snake Kiln" due to its winding, snake-like structure, it was an important site for producing everyday ceramic items in central Taiwan during its early days. Back then, the Snake Kiln primarily produced water jars, urns, and clay pots. Over time, the site transformed into a cultural and tourism hub that also serves as a center for ceramic art education. Visitors can not only explore the century-old kiln but also enjoy hands-on experiences such as pottery throwing, glazing, and wood firing. Strolling through the park, the rich aroma of wood and the earthy scent of clay intertwine. Ancient craftsmanship shines anew in a modern setting, showcasing the warmth of Taiwan's land and the spirit of its artisans.
