Wenwu Temple – A Stunning Temple by Sun Moon Lake

Wenwu Temple, located on a hill in the northern part of Sun Moon Lake in Nantou City, Taiwan, is a magnificent and elegant temple. It stands out with its grand ancient Chinese architectural style. The temple was built in 1938 to merge two temples that were relocated from the lakeside due to rising water levels caused by the construction of a dam. Inside the temple, there are three main halls: • Front Hall: Dedicated to the God of Literature (Wenchang) and the God of Wealth. • Middle Hall: Dedicated to Guan Gong (the God of War) and General Yue Fei. • Rear Hall: Dedicated to Confucius. One of the highlights of the temple is the "366 Steps" or "Year of Steps," where each step represents a day of the year. Visitors can find their birth date and hang a bell to make a wish on the corresponding step. The view from the temple offers a clear sight of Sun Moon Lake, especially during the morning and evening when sunlight reflects off the water, creating a serene and picturesque atmosphere. Getting to the temple is convenient; you can take a bus from Taichung Railway Station and get off at the Wenwu Temple stop.
