Both Phra Pathom Chedi and Phra Prathon were abandoned in the forest for hundreds of years until the Rattanakosin period. While King Mongkut was ordained as a monk, he came across them. He therefore reported them to King Rama III, but he did not see any benefit in renovating them. He restored them until he ascended the throne. Currently, Wat Phra Prathon Chedi is a third-class royal temple, Worawihan type. Its highlight is that it is a Dvaravati-era chedi. The original form was an inverted bowl shape.
