Nagoya Castle

A must-visit spot for tourists in Nagoya, Japan, is the symbol of Nagoya City - Nagoya Castle. This is due to the history of Nagoya Castle: Tokugawa Ieyasu, who won the Battle of Sekigahara, decided to build Nagoya Castle in 1609 to defend against the Toyotomi (Hideyoshi) army, and moved the entire town from Kiyosu to the newly built Nagoya Castle. The re-built grid-shaped streets became the prototype of modern Nagoya, and the names of streets or bridges are still used today. The Nagoya City Hall (City Government) is not far from Nagoya Castle. Nagoya Castle includes the Nishi-no-Maru, Ni-no-Maru, Ofukai-Maru, and Honmaru. The Honmaru is the center of Nagoya Castle, and the castle tower and Honmaru Palace are located in the Honmaru.
