📍Mikunito Cave and Shinmei Cave, Kochi Prefecture There are many places related to Kobo Daishi (Kukai) in Muroto City. One of them is the "Mikunito Cave," which is said to have been used as a residence during his training. It is said that the young Kobo Daishi attained enlightenment in this cave about 1,200 years ago during the Heian period, and inside is a shrine called Gosho Shrine. It is said that the name "Kukai" was given to it because he was impressed by the sky and sea that can be seen from here. Next to this is the "Shinmei Cave," which is said to have been used mainly as a place of training.
