Unforgettable Arctic Adventures

Our trip across the Kola Peninsula was an unforgettable adventure through some of the most breathtaking and raw landscapes we’ve ever seen. We began with a hike to Krestovaya Mountain in Kandalaksha – described as “easy,” but definitely more challenging than expected. Still, even the halfway point rewarded us with panoramic views of the White Sea and surrounding islands. Next was Kolvitskiy Waterfall, a dramatic cascade hidden in Arctic wilderness. The hike from the village was short but beautiful, and the falls themselves were majestic – wild, loud, and unforgettable. In Teriberka, we explored the iconic stone beach, also known as the “beach with dragon eggs.” Giant round stones, wind from the Arctic Ocean, and surreal landscapes made it feel like another planet. Nearby, the Graveyard of Ships offered a haunting contrast, with rusted skeletons of vessels scattered across the shore – eerie and deeply atmospheric. We had lunch at Hotel Ter’, where the food was good and the view even better. Service was a little cold at first, but improved with time. In Murmansk, our best meal was at Terrasa Restaurant – everything from wild boar to seafood was outstanding, and our waiter Vlad made the experience even more special. Right outside Murmansk Railway Station, we discovered Pelmen House, a hidden gem for dumpling lovers. Blue dumplings, reindeer pelmeni, and warm service made it a must-visit spot. We also visited the nuclear icebreaker Lenin, an awe-inspiring engineering marvel docked in Murmansk’s harbor, surrounded by food trucks and scenic views. Our stay at a “ship cabin-themed” hotel Vatslav was disappointing – cramped rooms, poor service, and zero ventilation. Definitely not for claustrophobic travelers. But other places more than made up for it. From adorable reindeer and huskies at a local farm to the mighty Batareyskiy Waterfall after a 4 km eco-trail hike – this region is full of magical moments. The Russian North is raw, powerful, and absolutely worth exploring. #murmansk #teriberka #russiatravel #arcticadventure #waterfalls #northernrussia #hiddengems #tripmoments #naturelovers #epicviews

Murmansk

Teriberka, known as "The End of the World," is located in Murmansk Oblast, Russia. Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, it's surrounded by the majestic White Sea coast, rugged cliffs, and vast Arctic snowfields. In winter, the village is blanketed in a blanket of snow, reminiscent of a fairytale, offering breathtaking views of the vast polar landscape. At night, you can even chase the Northern Lights, truly experiencing the magic of a journey into the Arctic Circle. Recommended Itineraries and Must-Do Activities: To truly experience the awe of "The End of the World," depart from Murmansk. The journey to Teriberka typically takes about 2.5-3 hours. It's recommended to depart in the morning and return in the afternoon, taking in the following highlights along the way: 1. Arctic Coast: Upon arrival, you'll first encounter the spectacular coastline, a desolate and breathtaking sight. The frozen harbor, shrouded in winter snow, and the polar winds and snow create breathtaking views. 2. Dragon's Egg Beach: This beach, covered in rounded boulders arranged like dinosaur eggs, exudes a mysterious atmosphere and is perfect for photo opportunities. 3. Aurora Exploration: In winter, there's a very high chance of seeing the Northern Lights. Check the local aurora forecast in advance and wait for the lights to appear in the village or along the coastline at night. Tips and Notes for Visiting the Scenic Spots: 1. The weather in the Arctic Circle region is cold and unpredictable. We recommend wearing windproof, waterproof, and warm clothing, especially down jackets and thick snow boots. 2. The journey is long, and the roads may be snowy and icy. We recommend hiring a professional driver or joining a local day tour for greater safety. 3. Dining and accommodation options are limited in the village, so we recommend booking in advance and bringing snacks and hot drinks. 4. Keep a flashlight, power bank, and other portable equipment handy. Darkness falls quickly in winter, making them essential for taking photos and walking. 5. In the cold winter, your phone's camera time is limited and the battery drains quickly. It's recommended to carry spare batteries or a heat pack. Teriberka is truly an ideal destination for polar exploration. Whether it's the magnificent snowy coastline, the magical boulder beach, or the thrill of chasing the aurora borealis at night, your trip will be unforgettable. If you yearn for the pure tranquility of the cold polar regions, you must bravely venture to this "end of the world"!
