Peaceful Pause at Murdunna & Dunalley: A Small-Town Scenic Stop After Port Arthur

#summervacay #july2025 #roadtrips #aussie After immersing ourselves in the history and solemn beauty of Port Arthur, the drive back toward Hobart calls for a gentle breather—and we found just the place. Nestled along the Tasman Highway, Murdunna Playground offers a quiet and welcoming space to pause, especially if you’re traveling with kids or simply want to take in some fresh Tasmanian country air. The playground is modest but well-kept, surrounded by open greenery and backed by hills that roll lazily into the distance. While the kids were happily swinging and climbing, we sat on the benches and enjoyed the serenity—no city noise, no rush, just the sound of wind through the trees and the occasional birdcall. It’s one of those spots that remind you how even a short rest stop can feel like a gentle reset. Just a short drive further is Dunalley, a small coastal town known for its charm and connection to the sea. The views here open up to calm waters and simple fishing boats—unassuming yet undeniably picturesque. We wandered a little, taking photos of the peaceful scenery and stopping by a local café for a warm drink and a chat with friendly locals. Though neither Murdunna nor Dunalley are “bucket list” destinations, they hold a quiet magic—the kind that’s easy to overlook on the way to somewhere else. But for travelers who appreciate authenticity, nature, and a slower pace, these two stops are like exhale points along the Tasman Peninsula drive.
