Rob Roy Glacier Track – A Hike That’s Totally Worth the Huffing and Puffing

The Rob Roy Glacier is honestly one of the most jaw-dropping sights I’ve seen. The moment you catch that first glimpse, it just hits you—and it gave me the push I needed to keep going all the way to the end, no matter how many breaths it took. The trail starts off pretty gently with a short stroll through open fields where you might spot a few sheep just chilling and enjoying the epic backdrop. Then you cross a river via a swing bridge and head into a long, shady track that winds alongside the river, slowly taking you closer to the glacier’s cliff face. There’s one short section with stairs, but they’re really not that bad—even for someone like me who’s not the fittest person around. There’s a lower viewpoint that’s perfect for a quick breather and a boost of fresh mountain air before the final push to the top. At the end of the official track, you can actually wander a bit further down to the river’s edge and dip your hands into the icy-cold, crystal-clear glacier water. Super refreshing! I’d call this an intermediate hike. As someone who’s, let’s just say, not exactly in top shape, I still found it very doable—even if I was huffing and puffing with every step. Now the drive in: if you’re confident on gravel roads and have a decent car, it’s actually a fun, short drive. I was cruising at 100km/h in a little hatchback, having a blast. But if bumpy roads aren’t your thing, it might not be your favorite part. Either way, the views along the drive are seriously out of this world, so just keep your eyes on that scenery and enjoy the ride.
