The sedimentary rocks (layers of hard sandstone and soft mudstone repeatedly stacked together) formed in the sea about 7 million years ago rose up, and over a long period of time were washed by the waves, leaving only the hard sandstone layers stacked like boards. It is said that the rocks have been eroded and rounded over the years, so be sure to visit early. There is also a stylish, clean, and inexpensive hostel nearby.
