Milford Sound Nature Park and Cruise. I started my trip from Queenstown at 7:20am using my Flexi Pass purchased with Intercity Bus Service and reached Milford Nature Park at 1:30pm. You can also start the trip from Te Anau Town (Difference of Nzd50 compared from Queenstown) as the Intercity Coach will stop at Te Anau for 30 minutes for breakfast and coffee break while picking up more passengers from there. I paid additional NZD159 for the Milford Cruise by Southern Discoveries (top up lunch box for additional NZD39 which i didn’t). Tea and milk are complimentary on the cruise. There are many other cruise providers eg RealNZ, Pure Milford, thus it is pretty competitive. Self drive will take up to 5 hours west from Queenstown and about 3 hours from Te Anau Town. Due to limited accommodation available on the sound, most visitors cum on day trips from Queenstown or Te Anau. The cruise runs for 2 hours and on the way we were lucky to see the little blue penguins spotted by our skipper who has sharp eyes. They are the world's smallest penguins and are native to New Zealand and are nocturnal, spending their days at sea and returning to their burrows on shore at night. Thus we are lucky to sight two of them back to shore so early. This famous fjord surrounded by vast, snow-flecked mountains. This wilderness wonderland rates as one of the most stunning sights in a country packed with beauty. (For the more adventurous, the famous 5-day Milford Track walk is a must- not for me as August is too cold out in the mountains for 3 to 5 days. Come on board to enjoy the wildlife and waterfalls, the towering cliffs and hanging valleys, the ancient glaciers and native flora, and the fascinating history of this famous fiord narrated by the skipper throughout the two hours journey. At 3.30pm, hop by to the Intercity Coach for return trip to either Te Anau Town or Queenstown (7.45pm)
