THE ARTIFACTS FROM THE DUOMO’s PAST

The Cathedral of Milan has its own museum. Here you can see actual Cathedral artifacts such as statues and stained-glass windows, as well as the Cathedral's layout in miniature, paintings, icons, and other artifacts from the Cathedral's past. The very name of the Museum of the Duomo of Milan reveals its core. It is a museum that owes its existence to the cathedral, from which all of the works on show were derived and to which it is continually referred. A visit to the Museo del Duomo is almost like a warm-up for a visit to the cathedral: a calm, quiet space where sculptures may be studied up close, taking in the colors of the marble and the details of one-of-a-kind works of art that have been installed on the monument, often at dizzying heights. The Metropolitan Chapter owns the Treasure, which is the first stop on the trip. The story continues with statues, stained-glass windows, paintings, tapestries, architectural models, terracottas, and plaster casts depicting the Duomo's history through the years. They're all taken from the Monument's original elements.
