Another ancient Roman capital

Andalucia Tour ~ Seville (Region) The Roman city of Itálica was founded in 206 BC by Publius Cornelius Scipio (also known as Africanus). Under Emperor Augustus, Italica became a town and was granted the privilege of minting its own currency. It was the birthplace of Emperors Trajan and Hadrian. Italy experienced a period of greatness, with a flourishing architectural development, new public buildings such as amphitheaters, houses with mosaic floors, and wide streets connecting neighborhoods. Archaeological excavations began between 1751 and 1755, led by Francisco de Bruna, and work has continued uninterrupted since then.
