It is an Islamic building built during the Almohad dynasty in the 12th century, and is characterized by its beautiful red stone structure and magnificent 77-meter-tall minarets. The name of the mosque is said to have originated from the 'booksellers (Koutoubia)' who once sold Koran books here. Unfortunately, non-Muslims are not allowed inside, but the view of the minarets from the outside and a walk around the surrounding gardens are impressive enough.
