2024 Manila Travel Guide: Must-see attractions, popular food, hotels, transportation routes (updated in November)
Manila is the capital city of the Philippines. New and old are interwoven with each other in this city which integrates eastern and western culture. Because it was once ruled by Spain, this place has quite the southwestern European atmosphere. Manila has a forest of skyscrapers. Its many streets and churches hold a hundred years of history, as well as gardens, alleys and byways full of blooming flowers. Downtown Manila is an excellent place to appreciate the city’s Spanish style. The Manila Cathedral, or Minor Basilica and Metropolitan Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, San Augustin Church and the Casa Manila museum are all located in the city. You can take a horse-drawn carriage tour around to visit them. Manila Bay, especially the waterfront Roxas Boulevard, is a beautiful place from which to watch the sunset. You also visit some places in the suburban outskirts of Manila, such as Tagatai to hike up the volcano or Pagsanjan to take part in exciting activities like rafting.

The Charming San Agustin Church
The highlight of this trip 🤩
Coincidentally, my friend who came along is a Christian
and provided a Chinese tour guide 🤣
Church visit is free (in the latter part)
Museum ticket costs 200 pesos
Initially thought it was expensive compared to other places
But!
Not only can you visit the entire church
There are also large, beautiful, and rich artifacts and paintings
It felt like stepping into the magical world of Hogwarts 😳
I really, really liked it
But it does require some legwork!
I recommend wearing a good pair of shoes 😆
📍Address: General Luna St, Intramuros, Manila, 1002 Metro Manila, Philippines
🕰️Opening hours: 8:00-17:00, closed on Mondays
💰Average cost: 200 pesos
Locally made articrafts!!
#traveldiaries
Are you looking for local and traditional articrafts? You can find them in Silahis Center. It is located on General Luna Street, Intramuros, Manila. It has three large floors with variety of items you may use at home. If you are interested in buying some stuff from The Philippines, this could be a place where you can find one. I would say this shop has a great selection of souvenirs especially to someone who likes something that is made of wood. The good thing here is that, you don't feel the pressure of buying the items. You are free to look around and appreciate the arts. A good place to visit while you are in town.

🏖️Ambiance/Facilities: It's a combination of history, spiritually and architecture. It is definitely a beautiful site of the first church I visited in Manila.
📍Address: Intramuros Manila
💰Average Price per Person: Free
💞Reasons to Recommend: Aside from a historical and architectural reasons. The place is also good to walk around as you see more interesting and historical buildings.
The All-Steel Wonder
#travellerswonderland
San Sebastian Church is a one-of-a-kind architectural masterpiece. Located in Quiapo, this all-steel church is the only one of its kind in Asia. The Neo-Gothic design and stained glass windows give it a stunningly ethereal beauty, making it a must-see for lovers of architecture and history. Built in the late 19th century, the church’s unique structure and tranquil atmosphere make it a true traveler’s wonder.
Tips:
• What to Bring: A wide-angle lens if you’re into architectural photography.
• Best Time to Visit: Early morning or late afternoon to capture the light streaming through the stained glass.
• Don’t Miss: The intricate details of the church’s steel interiors and the surrounding area, which offers a glimpse of old Manila.
An Urban Oasis
#travellerswonderland
Paco Park is a hidden gem in the heart of Manila, offering a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Originally a cemetery during the Spanish colonial period, it’s now a beautiful circular park with gardens, a chapel, and quiet walkways. It’s a perfect spot for relaxation, reflection, or even a romantic stroll. Its charming and historical vibe makes it an ideal backdrop for photos and peaceful afternoons.
Tips:
• Best Time to Visit: Late afternoon or early evening when the park is most peaceful.
• What to Bring: A book or a journal for some quiet time in the garden.
• Don’t Miss: Attend a musical concert or event at the open-air amphitheater if you get the chance.
Manila Cathedral
#churches #100waysoftravel
A really impressive and imposing building, with a nice park opposite and seating to admire. It wasn’t overly busy when I passed by which helped to avoid it feeling too touristy an area, but there’s still plenty of people nearby offering taxi and horse rides. A clean area and a spot everyone should check out on a visit to the city.
San Agustin Church (Archdiocese of Manila)
#churches #100waysoftravel
It is a Unesco world heritage site since 1993 and the oldest stone church of the Philipines.
It's construction finished in 1607. It survived several earthquakes, the Spanish wars and the Japanese invasion. The entrance to the church is free and you can also visit the convent by paying ticket.
Historic church at the heart of Intramuros grounds. A very functional church to this date where you might come across weddings and ceremonies.
Manila, Philipine

Manila is a metropolitan area with a population of over 10 million. The metropolis is called Metro Manila, but is often simply called Manila by foreigners and non-residents, and consists of 17 cities and municipalities. This article is about the city; see Metro Manila for the metropolitan area.
It is the second most populous city in the Philippines after Quezon City, the former capital of the Philippines.
Manila and its surrounding areas were unified as Metro Manila to facilitate the management of this super-growth area. Today, the city and its metropolis thrive as cultural and economic centers. But the city also suffers from problems of overpopulation, traffic congestion, and pollution.
Reinvigorated Manila is an amazing mixture of Spanish and Chinese heritage!
Explore the rich history of Manila by taking a nighttime stroll along the newly revitalized Pasig River Esplanade. The stunning night views will transport you back 350 years, showcasing a blend of Spanish heritage and Chinese influence from nearby Binondo.
This area has been thoughtfully reconstructed to reflect Manila's vibrant history, offering a captivating mix of modern sensibilities and Instagram-worthy sights steeped in culture.
An experience not to be missed.

Manila|24-hour layover✈️ Explore 10 city attractions without rushing
This is my 4th visit to Manila, with the experience of the previous 3 times, there is no sense of unfamiliarity at all, so there is no particular concern about those recent problems. The only concern was only the typhoon issue, the 1st typhoon formed in the Philippines on the 26th of May, and I also happened to arrive however, luck was kind of good, only the night of the 26th met with heavy rain in Manila, and the weather was good on the 27th!
There are not many attractions in Manila, they are in two areas, you can play a day at a fairly leisurely pace. My personal favourite is the Agustin Church, and the Ferris wheel sunset, enough netflix, the atmosphere is full of sense!
1 Day Tour Route
Chinatown - Santiago Castle - Manila Cathedral - St Augustine's Church - Lunch in King City - Rizal Park - Manila Bay - Ferris Wheel on the beach - Dinner and shopping at the malls
Tour Duration
Castle tour takes 1h, Manila Cathedral 30min, St Augustine's Cathedral + Museum 1.5h.
Monday all museums are closed, I did not go, go to the park next to the beach to see, to go to the museum of each museum is recommended to leave enough 1h
Tickets
Castle visit 75p
Church does not need to spend, Augustine church exhibition hall needs 200p
My advice
Augustine must go to its museum to see, there are a lot of paintings on the first floor, the promenade is very atmospheric, the interior of the church is also very good shot, if you meet the guide to explain, it will be very interesting!
Scenic spots can walk a bit, attractions are not far from each other, there are many interesting sculptures can be photographed, I went early without very sunny and very hot choose to walk. Scenic area also have a sudden car to walk, super easy to play around the attractions of Wangcheng District!
Lunch I chose to Ilustrado Restaurant, but paella need to wait 45min, I have some time to come, and finally ordered pork chops, too hard very costly cheeks, a little salty, poured sauce a little bit of sour smell ... a 650 pesos, serving is also slow, urging does not matter, but also the service charge of 10 per cent!
Out of the King City is Rizal Park, very sunny not much to see, to go to the museum can be considered to pass by the card!
About the Ferris wheel
King of Spain to the Ferris wheel can take a taxi, you can also take the light rail to edsa station, take a jeepney to go (see the home page of the previous guide for more details on transport)
🌍 on the beach can rank the number of sunset, sitting on the embankment waiting for the sunset is really romantic! Ferris wheel is the last time to ride, less than 20rmb, more expensive than Hong Kong's 2 yuan!
Another, take the fast rail to come, can pay attention to the station out of the trolley, are numbered, I think it is safer!

Whether you are going to Boracay or Cebu, Manila 🇵🇭 is the first stop for most travellers to the Philippines ~ many of my friends are worried, is it safe to travel here? Is it difficult to communicate in the language? Don't worry, as a traveller in the Philippines for many years I, one by one for you to solve and send super detailed practical dry goods and characteristics of play, hurry up to collect it!
Manila has a lot of fun and interesting attractions:
📍 Manila Cathedral: this stately and grandiose building makes you wonder about its history. The sunlight pouring through the stained glass is like a dream.
📍City of the Kings of Spain: Strolling through the old streets, it is as if you are travelling back in time, and every place tells a story of the past.
📍 Manila Bay Trail: Enjoy beautiful sunset views and bustling nightlife.
📍 Difisulia Market: the market has a wide variety of goods and is a great place to shop and experience the local culture.
📍 National Museum of the Philippines: the museum showcases the history and cultural heritage of the Philippines and is an ideal place to learn about the country.
📍 Pasay City Business District: is a business district in Manila with many malls, restaurants and entertainment facilities.
📍 Manila Zoological and Botanical Gardens: a variety of exotic tropical trees and naive critters, as well as a chance to see some rare species up close. Preferred with children, admission: 50p
🎉 Niche Recommended Play:
🔸 shopping on the Mall of Asia, the Filipinos are very interesting, to the mall building name, not moving on the Asia xx, the said not to say that the mall is really big, within the Winter Olympics scale giant ice skating rink, the Philippines' first IMAX movie theatre arcade, etc., in order to avoid tourists get lost mall is also equipped with a mini-bus shuttle in the various buildings.
🔸 Go to the Quiapo Market, which is full of local life and where you can find all sorts of interesting knick-knacks and special souvenirs. It can be reached by bus from the neighbourhood of the King of Spain.
🔸 Explore Binondo Chinatown, where you can taste a delicious fusion of Chinese food and local specialities. It can be accessed by light rail.
Useful TIPS:
🚗 For transport, we recommend the MRT or a taxi, which is cheap with Grab and saves you from haggling. Do not take the taxi without a meter, the airport to the city often sit on the ground.
🗣️ English popularity rate is very high, the local American culture is deeply influenced, you can also learn some Filipino language in advance: such as ‘Magandang umaga’ (good morning), ‘Salamat’ (thank you). Thank you), etc.
🌞 Huge sunshine, it is recommended to bring along high powered sunscreen, sun hats, sunglasses and umbrellas.
💵 It is recommended to exchange enough pesos in local currency for easy change.

📍 would have liked to go to card Asia's top 40 bar 𝐂𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫, helplessly off-peak call can not!
🛑Manila Safety.
Going out suggests that everyone on grab 🚗, 🙅 transport or yang trick rental, and then try to travel in the Wangcheng District, makati, BGC area, Pasay on Manila Bay and SM mall, fewer people do not travel alone. If you want to stay 🏨 makati and BGC can be very busy police are also many.
Physically certainly not as safe as Bangkok Ho Chi Minh these, the attention ⚠️ to anti-theft and anti-robbery should also remain vigilant, do not pay attention to the begging children.

Scrumptious local food of The Philippines 💫
#localfood
📍Mang Inasal, Manila, Philippines
If we are talking about ASEAN, there is no doubt about the richness of its own scrumptious local food 🤤. Philippines is one of the best country I have ever try for its delicious local food.
Here is the evidence of me having the local food. There are Palabok, a bihun noodle served with peanut sauce and celery which has eggs and lime as an optional adds on. Then we have Halo-Halo, local ice cream made of Ube flavour served with jellies and some fruits. And last but not least we have fresh mixed fruits juice which contain mango, watermelon and pineapple blended altogether and feel the freshness of its fruits.
• Palabok bihun noodles is so soft and the sauce tastes is so special. You can either mix the sauce together with the noodles or you can eat them the way it is.
• Halo-Halo ice cream tastes differently with special Ube which makes it iconic ice cream, as I have never seen an ice cream made of Ube. The jellies give completion which makes the taste even tastier. It is very suitable to Manila hot temperature.
• The mixed fresh fruits completes you to enjoy Manila even though it is hot during the day. With this, it will calm you down during you explore in Manila. You should try this fresh mixed fruits
I highly recommend you to try this during your visit in Manila. You can get it at any Mang Inasal restaurant in Manila
Enjoy local food! 🤤

A taste of urban philipinnes
#weekendgetaways
So Manila cannot offer you what rest of philipines and those island beach destinations offer you. On the the contrary it is crowded, traffic, can be a test of many things. But say you're looking at getting away for the weekend and are out of options. I say so cos from Singapore often we get good flight deals to the Philippines.
Only once have I dared Manila but i thought for a getaway that short. It worked out just fine. You get your nightlife, food, friendly locals etc. In terms of sightseeing and killing time during the days. You ould try the luneta park, china town, BgC and say a bunch of other malls to kill time and get some chow. #weekendonly #manila #beachlife #cityholiday

The capital of the Philippines without snow looks like this | Manila
🌈 Manila (foreign name Manlia; alias Minlila) is the capital and largest city of the Philippines!
🔜📸 The population here accounts for 1/4 of the total population of the Philippines, and it is also known as the 'Little New York of Asia'.
🔜🌟 In November 2018, Manila entered the ranks of the world's first-tier cities.
🔜🚏 Manila still retains traces of history, its ancient architectural complex is covered with moss, and the old churches are sacred and unique, like the 🔺San Agustin Church built in 1599, which is a typical Spanish-style Catholic church, grand and mysterious.
🔜✅ Manila is a city where modern and traditional, progressive and backward, poverty and wealth intersect. In Manila, you can see slums as well as skyscrapers.
⚠️ If you see a 'Wang Bin Street' in the business center while touring Manila, don't be surprised; that's Chinatown;
🔜📸 The Binondo district's Chinatown, although not the most famous in the world, is indeed the oldest Chinatown.
Manila's Chinese Garden
The landmark Rizal Park in Manila is grand in scale, with beautiful scenery, shaded by green trees, and fragrant. At dusk, the golden shimmering sea reflects the swaying coconut shadows on the shore, like a picture full of poetic and picturesque charm. There are three major gardens in Rizal Park, namely the Chinese Garden, the Spanish Garden, and the Japanese Garden. The Chinese Garden, true to its name, displays an authentic Chinese flavor. The park's uniquely shaped rockeries, beautiful fountains and waterfalls, and Chinese-style galleries, along with the almost daily open-air concerts, make Rizal Park even more charming.

Journey to Manila
Casa Manila - Manila's own King's Landing😂|||☀️I think Casa Manila should be the most popular attraction for young people in the entire royal city area. Compared to other cathedrals and ruins, the style here has a more historical and modern blend, and it is also the place where the most little brothers and sisters in the entire royal city area take photos and check in.
☀️Secondly, what sets it apart from other attractions is that the entire plot is a courtyard structure, with a better sense of enclosure, naturally shielding the conflict brought about by the local residents' well life in the royal city area, making it easier for you to feel the winding path and the desire to suppress first when browsing inside. Layered experience.
☀️The main tour spot here is the Casa Manila Museum located at the exit, which is a museum located in Manila. The architectural style is inspired by the late 18th and early 19th century Spanish colonial period in the Philippines. Its architectural style fully reflects the luxury and unique design of the Spanish Philippines. The external environment of the museum is designed as if it is a time tunnel, bringing tourists into the unique history of the Spanish Philippines. The courtyard layout follows the courtyard design concept at the time, combining gardens, fountains and traditional stone paths to create a quiet and charming environment.
☀️The architectural details of Casa Manila show the typical features of early 19th century Spanish colonial architecture in the Philippines, including exquisite wood carvings, stone walls and red tile roofs. The materials used inside the building, such as hardwood floors and gorgeous plaster decorations, all highlight the exquisite craftsmanship of the era.
☀️As for the indoor display, it brings together the furniture, art and daily necessities of the wealthy class at the time. Visitors can see the lifestyle of the upper class in the Philippines in the 19th century here, from the bedroom to the living room, every place seems to restore the life scene at that time.
Kindness on the Sand: Advocating for Aspins' Worth 🐶
My true joy lies on the beach, surrounded by aspins 🐶. Engaging with these stray dogs, both grown and pint-sized, often draws odd glances. However, these precious beings deserve more than the stigma they face. Deemed dirty and unlovable, they actually embody sweetness, kindness, and unwavering loyalty. For far too long, aspins have been marginalized, subject to inhumane treatment. It's time to end the disparity between pedigrees and aspins – a true dog lover embraces all, unconditionally. I stand by aspins until the end and for those who can't see their value, well, I've always preferred dogs to people anyway ✌🏼.

Manila
First, we come to Pearl Island, a volcanic island known for its blue gradient sea. Under the sunlight, the sea is like a shining sapphire, as if you are in a fairy tale world. Next, we go to Battleship Island, a famous diving spot. Here, you can immerse yourself in the white sandy beach and the charming jelly sea, and also take excellent tail sand beach photos. The most dazzling is the sea of Similan, because it is far from the land, the sea is very clear, the feeling of seeing the bottom of the sea, the fish in the water at a glance is great. The beach of PP Island is the most delicate, and it doesn't hurt your feet at all when you step on it. A wave comes over, as if it is dissolved milk powder, slowly flowing between the toes. Manila Bay is a natural harbor located on the east coast of the South China Sea, where you can enjoy a beautiful picturesque sunset. The Ferris wheel slowly rotates to the top, the sun gradually converges its dazzling light, its figure slowly approaches the horizon, the fire-like red spreads from the cloud to the sea, at this moment, the dreamy sunset is imprinted in my eyes.
