Wat Phra That Doi Tung, Chiang Rai Located in the area called the chest of Doi Nang Non, it enshrines the left cervical bone of the Lord Buddha and is the chedi for those born in the year of the Pig. It is ancient, beautiful, and is located on a mountaintop about 2,000 meters above sea level. It is a pair of golden chedis in the shape of a small bell-shaped castle on a square base covered with terracotta tiles. The legend of Wat Phra That Doi Tung states that this is the first chedi in the Lanna Kingdom to enshrine the left cervical bone relics that King Achutarat brought from India. Later, Khru Ba Srivichai renovated it and built the current chedi to cover the old chedi. There is also a story that in the past, a centipede flag (Tung) that was as long as a thousand wa was planted on the mountaintop. If the tip of the flag fell somewhere, it would be used as the location of the stupa.
