Karnak Temple, located in the north of Luxor, Egypt, is a spectacular religious complex left over from the ancient Egyptian Empire. The temple is not only the center of worship for the sun god Amun, but also one of the largest religious buildings in ancient Egypt. History Middle Kingdom: Karnak Temple was built during the Middle Kingdom, around 2000 BC. It was part of Thebes, and over time, the temple was continuously expanded and modified, eventually becoming an important part of the capital Thebes during the New Kingdom. During the New Kingdom, especially from the 18th to the 20th dynasties, the temple underwent large-scale expansion. During this period, the temple became the most important religious center in the country, and many pharaohs expanded and decorated it. In the following millennia, despite multiple wars and natural disasters, Karnak Temple maintained its religious and political importance. Until the end of the 4th century AD, the spread of Christianity led to the gradual abandonment of the temple.
