Lungern, Swiss Alps

Lungern is a municipality in the canton of Obwalden in Switzerland. It includes Lake Lungern and, in addition to the village of Lungern, the three settlements of Burgren and Kaiserstuhl on the north shore and Obers. The village of Lungern is 750 meters above sea level, located at the highest point of the Swiss Alps in Obwalden, on the eastern shore of Lake Lungern and at the foot of the Brünig Pass. It is the highest village in the Sanella Valley, located in a basin open only to the north and surrounded by steep wooded slopes and rocks. The first legal evidence of the existence of Dragonland is contained in the tax registers of the Diocese of Constance in Germany, dating back to 1275. Reaching the village became easier in 1861 when a road was built over the Brünig Pass. A quarter of a century later, in 1886, the first mail coaches rolled through the pass. Today, if you continue north about 2.8 kilometers from the mountain pass, you will find a Longjiang Lake Observation Deck.
