Wat Xieng Thong, a beautiful temple, a Lan Xang heritage site

#VisitLaos Wat Xieng Thong is the most important ancient temple in Luang Prabang, Laos. It is located where the Khan River meets the Mekong River. The highlight of this temple is the "Sim" or the oldest chapel in Luang Prabang, which reflects the exquisite architecture of Lan Xang. It has been praised as the "Jewel of Lan Xang". In addition, inside Wat Xieng Thong, there is a Phra Man Hall, which enshrines Phra Man, one of the three important Buddha images of Luang Prabang. Wat Xieng Khan was built between 2101 - 2103 during the reign of King Sai Setthathirat, the king who once ruled both the Lan Xang and Lanna kingdoms. The architecture is in the Lan Xang style, as can be seen from the curved roof, sloping down in 3 levels. The middle of the roof has a golden spire called the Chofa, consisting of 17 sections, showing that it was a temple built by the king. The pediment is decorated with Naga heads and Buddhist patterns.
