Some sound advice for travels in London

#cityplaybook After two trips to London (and making all sorts of mistakes), here are a few pieces of advice: 1) Transportation Use a contactless card—daily fares are automatically capped at £8.50, which is enough to cover travel to 99% of the popular attractions across London. Night Tubes (on 5 lines) operate throughout the night on Fridays and Saturdays, making it possible to enjoy London’s nightlife without needing to spend a fortune on Uber—just stay near those lines. 2) Attraction For city skyline views, there are plenty of free options that beat the expensive Shard (for example: Horizon 22 > Sky Garden > The Garden at 120 / The Post Building > Level 10 at Tate Modern). For market hopping, Borough Market offers amazing cheeses (look for a stall with 15-month Comté and another selling a variety of liquor-infused cheeses); Leadenhall Market features beautiful classical-style architecture; Portobello Road Market is long but, in my opinion, not very exciting. For museums: many excellent museums in the UK have free admission (which is awesome), though the sheer number can be overwhelming. Prioritize the Victoria and Albert Museum and, of course, the British Museum. To see most of London’s iconic sights efficiently, consider a walk along the Thames River (over one or two days)—I recommend going from east to west, as many buildings don’t look great when backlit by the sun. #london #museum #europe #travel
