Postman’s Park - London

Postman’s Park is named so because employees of the General Post Office, located nearby, often rest in it. Postman’s Park is surrounded by tall houses, and on its territory there are many old mighty trees, so shade and coolness always reign here. It was laid out on the site of two church cemeteries and still retains its original features. The wrought-iron fence, gothic-style drinking fountains and a few miraculously surviving tombstones along the walls remind of the historical past of this place. Most of the territory is occupied by green lawns, alleys with benches and several small fountains, but the main attraction of Postman Park is the Memorial to Heroic Self-Sacrifice. This unusual monument is a wall on which the names of more than 150 heroes with descriptions of their actions are laid out with ceramic tiles. Ordinary people who sacrificed their lives to save their loved ones are immortalized here. Also in the park is the current church of St. Botolph. #londontrip #londontrips
