An eight-day itinerary to unlock sinkhole rappelling, cave hiking, canyon exploration, paddleboarding challenges, cliff tent camping, and the secret Haokun Lake favored by Zhang Xinyu... Detailed itinerary Day 1: Arrive in Baise Transportation: Baise has a high-speed rail station (Baise Station) and an airport (Baise Bama Airport). Taking the high-speed train from Nanning or Kunming is most convenient. After arrival, renting a car or hiring a driver is recommended for more flexible travel. Food recommendations: In the evening, visit Wenming Street, Sankoujing, or Wanjing City to try local snacks. Recommended: Old Brand Congee Shop, Liang’s Stewed Dishes, Friendship Ice Cream Shop, etc. Try raw rice noodles, roast duck noodles, native chicken noodles, eel congee, frog congee, sweet swallow, sweet rice, vegetable cake, mango sour soup, and more. Tips: Choose accommodation near Jiefang Street for convenient night tours. Day 2: Baise - Guangdong East Guild Hall - Baise Uprising Memorial Hall - Haokun Lake Drive: In the afternoon, drive from Baise city to Haokun Lake in Lingyun County, about 80 minutes. Must-see: Guangdong East Guild Hall, the origin and command center of the Baise Uprising. Ancient architecture style, great for photos. Baise Uprising Memorial Hall, free admission but requires reservation. Built on a hillside with a wide view, perfect for city panorama shots. Haokun Lake, surrounded by dozens of towering karst peaks like a huge emerald. Watch the sunset shimmer on the lake in the evening, incredibly soothing. Tips: Recommended hotel is Haokun Lake Science Center Hotel. Day 3: Haokun Lake Day Tour Must-do: Boat tour on the lake, 50 RMB/person, about 1 hour, to see the islands and karst mountain scenery. Hiking or cycling around the lake: Haogao Wind and Rain Corridor Bridge - Shadowless Bridge - Lakeside Boardwalk - Fisherman’s Pavilion - Sanhe Wharf - Sanhe Viewing Platform - Sanhe New Village - Haokun Village Office (return), about 12 km total. Electric bikes are also available for rent. Photo spots: Zhulong Cave (once the only exit for villagers), Sanhe Viewing Platform (overlooking the emerald lake surface), etc. Food recommendations: Dustpan feast, five-color glutinous rice, Lingyun cured meat, Black Phoenix longevity soup, nine-layer cake, mountain spring tofu pudding, etc. Notes: Wear non-slip shoes for hiking; watch out for mosquitoes in summer. Day 4: Haokun Lake - Dashiwai Sinkhole Group Scenic Area - Baidong Sinkhole - Yunhai Tianzhou Drive: From Haokun Lake to Dashiwai Sinkhole Group Scenic Area in Leye County, about 2 hours. Must-do: Baidong Sinkhole, try sinkhole rappelling with options of 50m or 200m. Rappel down the sinkhole edge for an adrenaline rush. You can also hike to the bottom’s primeval forest to explore a rare independent ecosystem. Dashiwai Sinkhole, the largest sinkhole in Asia. Standing on the viewing platform looking down at the forest floor is breathtaking! Yunhai Tianzhou, a glass platform extending over the sinkhole, perfect for “floating” photos. Food recommendations: Sour pickled ribs, sour konjac, high mountain Han steamed cake, snail and duck feet pot, banana leaf grilled fish, etc. Notes: Many mosquitoes in the sinkholes, mosquito repellent is a must! Tips: Dashiwai Sinkhole 1466 Cliff Tent Camping Site (advance booking required), built on the cliff edge, excellent for stargazing and sunrise viewing. Day 5: Dashiwai Sinkhole Group Scenic Area - Jixingyan - Dwarf Horse Kingdom, stay at Dwarf Horse Kingdom Drive: From Dashiwai Sinkhole Group Scenic Area to Jixingyan in Debao County, about 3 hours. Must-do: Jixingyan, known as a rare karst formation museum, with stunning stalactites inside the caves and spectacular underground terraces. Dwarf Horse Kingdom, interact with the world’s shortest horses (about 80cm tall), feed and ride them up close, perfect for family trips. Food recommendations: Debao pig blood sausage, pig blood cake, Zhuang triangular wheat cakes, sour fish, sour bamboo duck, etc. Tips: Unique wooden houses and tent hotels inside the Dwarf Horse Kingdom scenic area. Day 6: Dwarf Horse Kingdom - Old Prefecture Scenic Area - E Spring Drive: From Dwarf Horse Kingdom to Old Prefecture Scenic Area in Jingxi City, about 50 minutes. Must-do: Old Prefecture Scenic Area, known as the “Living Museum of the Zhuang Ethnic Group,” with ancient streets, rich handicrafts, experience intangible cultural heritage crafts, and customize your own hydrangea ball. E Spring Scenic Area, with crystal-clear spring water, known as one of the “Three Famous Springs of Southwest China,” the source of Detian Waterfall. At dusk, the sunset reflects on the rice fields like a painting. Must-do: Tongling Grand Canyon, deep canyon with a 188-meter waterfall plunging to the valley bottom, walk the underground river trail, very cool and refreshing. Longyang Sinkhole, known as Guangxi’s version of “Zelda,” famous for karst landforms, stalactite caves, and deep sinkhole meadows. A little-known undeveloped spot, perfect for adventure, requires a local guide. Day 8: Return Take the high-speed train or drive back from Pingguo City to end the trip.
