The Edge of the Earth: The Great Cliff of Longtoushan in Leibo, Liangshan Prefecture

Longtoushan Great Cliff is located at the junction of Leibo, Meigu, and Zhaojue counties in Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau. It runs east-west, with the highest altitude over 3,700 meters and the lowest at 960 meters. Some call it 'the end of the world,' while others refer to it as 'the edge of the earth'. The Great Cliff of Longtoushan is dozens of kilometers away from Leibo County Town. With the cliff becoming popular on the internet in recent years, many people drive from other places to visit, especially recently, with a significant increase in self-driving tourists. Sometimes, dozens of vehicles arrive in a single day, and the highland meadows have been damaged by the vehicles. In August 2022, several departments in Leibo County, Liangshan Prefecture, Sichuan, issued a notice to implement long-term closure and control over the Aha Haluo Great Prairie and the Longtoushan Great Cliff area within the Sichuan Mami Ze Provincial Nature Reserve. The Great Cliff is located in the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, with a strong ethnic atmosphere, making the travel experience distinct. The top of the mountain offers the scenery of the Aha Haluo Great Prairie, and the journey provides a good view. Since it is a prairie, the roadbed is generally good. As long as you have an off-road vehicle, you can basically find your own way up, following the tire tracks. Once at the top, the view of the cliff is worth the trip, with the prairie, sea of clouds, and a 90-degree, 1,200-meter-deep vertical cliff that is unforgettable. The scenery of Leibo Great Cliff is genuinely beautiful, but now it requires sufficient physical strength to visit. Tip: Currently, due to environmental protection, the Great Cliff has been indefinitely closed to the public.
