Chamdevi Temple

Wat Chamdevi, formerly known as Wat Ku Kut, is located on Chamdevi Road, Village No. 5, Nai Mueang Subdistrict, Mueang District, Lamphun Province. There is an important historical site, Phra Suwanna Jangkot Chedi, which is believed to be the place where the ashes of Queen Chamdevi are enshrined. Wat Chamdevi has been registered as a national ancient site. Wat Chamdevi is an important temple since the Lanna Thai period, with both historical and archaeological significance. According to evidence found from the stone inscription, it is believed that the royal son of Queen Chamdevi, Phra Chedi Mahantayot, and King Anantayot ordered the construction of this temple for the cremation ceremony. He then ordered the construction of a square chedi with a gold-covered top called Suwanna Jangkot. Phra Chedi Suwanna Jangkot or Phra Chedi Chamadevi is a square chedi in the Bodh Gaya style in India. Each side has a standing Buddha statue in the blessing posture on each level. There are 15 standing Buddha statues in the Buddha niches on each side, totaling 60 statues. Inside the pagoda, the ashes of Queen Chamadevi, the first ruler of Hariphunchai. Later, it is not certain when the top of the pagoda broke off, so the villagers called it Ku Kut Phra Chedi. This pagoda has an official name of Suwanna Jangkoti Pagoda.
