Kyoto's World Heritage Site: Kinkaku-ji

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, Kinkaku-ji (officially known as Rokuon-ji Temple) is another must-visit temple in Kyoto. The temple is famously called Kinkaku-ji due to its stunning golden pavilion. Originally, Rokuon-ji was the residence of the Saionji family during the Kamakura period, enjoying a period of prosperity. However, it fell into disrepair and was later rebuilt by Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in 1934. In 1397, his son Ashikaga Yoshimochi renamed the estate "Kitayama-dono" and subsequently converted it into a Zen temple. The current golden pavilion was reconstructed in 1955, and its gold leaf exterior was renewed in 1987. The golden pavilion is truly breathtaking, and even its reflection in the water is worth capturing.
