#cityplaybook I have never felt the same as when I go to Kyoto. For me so far, Kyoto is everything I need about relaxing holidays. Japan is already an amazing place to be, but I've never felt more at peace than in Tokyo 1. Keibunsha Ichijoji – A dreamy indie bookstore with art books, zines, and cozy vibes. Tucked away near philosophers and poets, it feels like a secret world. 2. Shirakawa Canal Walk (near Gion) – Less crowded than the Philosopher’s Path, this peaceful stream lined with willows is magical in any season. 3. Kyoto City Zoo Observation Deck – Hidden in plain sight, the rooftop café here offers a serene city view with few crowds. 4. Kawai Kanjiro’s House – A preserved home of the artist and potter, full of warmth, creativity, and quiet inspiration. 5. Kyoto University Clock Tower & Café – A surprisingly peaceful spot to sip coffee and feel the energy of student life and tradition. 6. Funaoka Onsen – A traditional public bath with beautiful wood carvings. Locals love it, and the calming atmosphere is unmatched. 7. Nishiki Tenmangu Shrine – At the end of Nishiki Market, this small shrine is often overlooked but offers a moment of calm amid the bustle. 8. Yoshida Hill & Yoshida Shrine – A peaceful escape with mossy paths, shrine buildings, and few visitors. Magical during early morning walks. 9. Kyoto Art Center – Housed in a former school, this space mixes contemporary art and old-world charm. Often free exhibitions and quiet corners to reflect. 10. Demachi Masugata Shopping Street – A nostalgic shopping arcade featured in the anime Tamako Market.
