Daigo-ji Temple Cherry Blossoms

Maruyama Park was established in 1886 and is the most historic park in Kyoto City. Spanning approximately 86,000 square meters, the park is home to over a thousand cherry blossom trees, including the Somei Yoshino and Yamazakura varieties. The beauty of Daigo-ji Temple's cherry blossoms has been passed down from ancient times, as the famous warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi held a grand cherry blossom viewing party here in his later years despite his illness. The park is designed as a traditional Japanese garden, divided into Upper Daigo and Lower Daigo. Upper Daigo, located at the summit of Mount Daigo, requires a one-hour walk to reach and is the site where Daigo-ji Temple was founded in 873. Lower Daigo at the foot of the mountain features the Sanbo-in and the National Treasure Five-Storied Pagoda among other scenic spots.
