Genbu Shrine

#DomesticTravel Genbu Shrine Genbu Shrine is the birthplace of the Yasurai Festival, one of Kyoto's three strange festivals. This shrine enshrines Prince Koretaka, the first son of the 55th Emperor Montoku, as its deity. "Genbu" is one of the four guardian deities of the royal palace and is said to be the guardian deity of the north. The "Genbu Yasurai Festival," held every year on the second Sunday of April, is famous as one of Kyoto's three strange festivals, along with the "Kurama Fire Festival" and the "Uzumasa Ushi Festival." It's in the middle of Kyoto, so be careful not to miss it! Perhaps because it was Golden Week, the only goshuin available was a special written one.
