A Perfect Getaway in Kusatsu – Japan’s Ultimate Onsen Town

My trip to Kusatsu Onsen was nothing short of magical. Nestled in the mountains of Gunma Prefecture, Kusatsu is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring towns, known for its high-quality sulfuric waters and traditional charm. From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the town’s relaxing atmosphere, steaming hot springs, and welcoming hospitality. Yubatake – The Heart of Kusatsu The iconic Yubatake (Hot Water Field) is the centerpiece of Kusatsu, and seeing it in person was mesmerizing. The sight of steaming, mineral-rich water flowing through wooden channels in the middle of the town was breathtaking, especially at night when the area was beautifully illuminated. It’s a great spot to take a stroll, soak in the atmosphere, and enjoy the smell of natural onsen minerals. Onsen Experience Kusatsu is home to many free public foot baths and traditional bathhouses, making it a paradise for onsen lovers. I visited: • Otakinoyu – Famous for its awase-yu bath, where you gradually soak in hotter pools. It was an intense but refreshing experience! • Gozanoyu – A beautiful, historic wooden bathhouse with a peaceful atmosphere. Perfect for a traditional onsen experience. • Sainokawara Rotenburo – A large outdoor onsen surrounded by nature, offering the most relaxing open-air soak under the sky. Delicious Local Food Kusatsu has plenty of food stalls and restaurants offering regional specialties. Some of the highlights included: • Onsen Manju – Soft, warm steamed buns filled with sweet red bean paste. Perfect for snacking while exploring. • Yunohana Soba – A delicious bowl of local handmade soba noodles, served with a flavorful dipping sauce. • Onsen Tamago – Eggs slow-cooked in the hot spring water, resulting in a silky, melt-in-your-mouth texture. Relaxing Ryokan Stay I stayed at Tokinoniwa Onsen Hotel, which was an incredible experience. The private open-air onsen, traditional kaiseki dinner, and impeccable service made the trip even more special. The ryokan’s peaceful atmosphere and free-flowing onsen water were the perfect way to unwind after exploring the town. Final Thoughts Kusatsu Onsen is truly a hidden gem and a must-visit for anyone looking for an authentic Japanese onsen experience. Whether you’re soaking in the famous hot springs, wandering around the picturesque streets, or indulging in local delicacies, Kusatsu offers the perfect balance of relaxation and cultural charm. I’ll definitely be returning for another visit! #kusatsu #kusatsuonsen #yubatake #onsen #tokyo #visitjapan #instatravel #travelholic #travelgram #exploretheworld #beautifuldestination #iphone16plus #iphonephotography #草津 #草津温泉
